14.04.2025
The Metro Tunnel Project has entered its final stage as three new stations — Arden, Parkville, and Anzac — were officially handed over to Metro Trains this week. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Premier Jacinta Allan and Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams confirmed the transfer during a visit to Parkville Station. This handover enables rail staff to begin operational preparations and system integration.

Jacinta Allan highlighted the milestone by saying, “We’ve got the keys from the builders. Now our teams can step in, make final adjustments, and prepare for the first wave of passengers.”
Metro Testing and Construction Progress Continue
Crews are now intensifying testing of all Metro Tunnel systems, including upgraded trains and platforms. Temporary bus replacements will operate on the Sunbury, Cranbourne, and Pakenham lines throughout the month to allow safe test runs.
Construction also continues on the final two underground stations — Town Hall and State Library — situated beneath Melbourne’s CBD. Both sites remain on track for completion in the coming months.
Metro Delivers Largest Rail Upgrade Since 1981
The Metro Tunnel includes five new underground stations and represents Melbourne’s biggest rail expansion since the City Loop opened in 1981.
This $11 billion initiative will ease congestion, improve commuter travel times, and connect key destinations including universities, hospitals, and business hubs.
Once launched, the Metro Tunnel will form a new high-capacity corridor, transforming how Victorians travel through the city and beyond.
The successful handover of the first stations brings the project one step closer to opening and signals strong progress on one of Australia’s most ambitious infrastructure upgrades.
