The High-Capacity Metro Trains have already traveled over 140,000 kilometers inside the tunnels, validating the system’s reliability and readiness for extended trials.
From 29 August to 5 September, buses will replace trains on the Cranbourne, Pakenham, Traralgon, and Bairnsdale lines, supporting Suburban Rail Loop construction at Clayton Station.
During this period, testing of the X’Trapolis 2.0 trains will proceed, and bus replacements will affect the Sunbury, Frankston, and Werribee lines as infrastructure work advances.
Road and Rail Upgrades Complement Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel Project
In July, North East Link construction will shift traffic to new Bulleen Road lanes as the first part of a major Eastern Freeway interchange opens.
Two new pedestrian and cycling bridges will be installed in late August at Estelle Street and Heyington Avenue, improving safety and connectivity for residents.
Tunnel work will continue to connect the North East Link with the M80 Ring Road, requiring buses to replace trains on sections of the Hurstbridge line during July.
In Berwick, Clyde Road Upgrade crews will close the citybound Princes Freeway exit ramp from mid-June to November. The Warragul-bound entry ramp will be shut from July to October.
