LTG Cargo intends to launch a weekly container train to Ukraine
14.12.2023
Due to challenges at the Ukrainian-Polish border, there has been an increased demand for freight transportation between Ukraine and other regions, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
To address this, the company plans to enhance communication by initiating a weekly container train.

The move is also driven by significantly higher costs associated with road transport.
According to LTG Cargo’s estimates, transporting goods by rail after forming a full train composition could be twice as cost-effective as using road transport.
A single train trip can carry as much cargo as 36 trucks typically transport.
However, the transportation of certain goods by rail is limited due to the absence of corresponding containers in the market, such as special 40-foot containers with autonomous refrigeration equipment.
Meanwhile, there are already positive outcomes from collaborations, with a train from the Kaunas intermodal terminal to Ukraine carrying consolidated cargo from three clients in containers.
It will transport PET pellets, ammonium sulfate, and empty containers.
The train is expected to reach Ukraine in eight to nine days next week.
As reported earlier, in November, Ukrzaliznytsia and LTG Cargo tested the intermodal route from Klaipeda to Kaunas to Kiev.
