Losses of Belarusian Railways from the war in Ukraine
10.06.2023
The losses of Belarusian Railways (BR) are increasing every day, according to the railway journal Railway Supply, citing the Railway Community of Belarus.
Previously, the Railway Community of Belarus provided information about the assets of the state enterprise “BTLZ” located in Ukraine, as well as the inventory of the Belarusian Railways, which was included in the balance sheet of the state enterprise “BTLZ”.
Currently, journalists are providing updated data on the losses incurred by BR in supporting the war on the aggressor’s side. These amounts can be confidently added to the other losses suffered by Belarusians from maintaining an illegitimate regime.
As of November 1, 2022, the total number of rolling stock of BR (Belarusian Railways) detained after the start of the war in Ukraine amounted to 16% of the total fleet.

In addition to the existing losses of rolling stock, such as wagons, containers, and locomotives, the equipment (electric machines) belonging to BR, which was located at the moment the war started in the LLC “Smilyansky Electromechanical Plant” in Ukraine, was also added.
These electric machines were intended for repair from the locomotive depots of BR and were detained at the plant after the start of the war. At the same time, BR had a debt of $162.9 thousand to the plant for repaired equipment.
The total residual value of the detained Ukrainian rolling stock and equipment currently amounts to $40 thousand, compared to the previously mentioned figure of $12.8 thousand. The amount of BR’s property rights to Ukraine in the form of accounts receivable is $6.1 thousand.

However, let’s look at it from a different perspective. The wagons seized by Ukraine from BR, as an organization of the co-aggressor country, will not be returned to Belarus. Therefore, the acquisition of 7 thousand new wagons amounts to a minimum of $70 million at the lowest conditional wagon prices.
Sadly, it can be concluded that no financial or reputational losses affect the “sentiments” of the current leaders of Belarusian Railways (BR), for whom their own seats and hopes for the favor of the ruling elite in Belarus are much more important than the lives of millions of people who have become victims of the ambitions of the insane rulers of Russia and Belarus.
However, we have no doubt that in the end, they will be held accountable to the Belarusians and Ukrainians for everything!
