The Polish carrier PKP LHS will limit the acceptance of grain cargo from 19:00 on December 23 to 19:00 on December 25. This was informed by the representative of the company Justyna Nowak during a meeting between Ukrainian and Polish railway workers on December 22, Railway Supply reports with reference to Rail.insider.

“This is primarily due to weather conditions. They do not have time to reload, because there is a problem with transport. And the approaching holidays are also contributing, the terminals will not work around the clock, but only at certain times,” she said.

Plan B for Ukrzaliznytsia: diesel and… steam locomotives?

In turn, the representative of PKP Cargo Stanislav Voytovich noted that after frost and snow, now the temperature has risen above zero. He noted that most of all, the volume of work with Ukrainian cargo limits the priority of transporting coal in Poland from ports to thermal power plants. “This tense situation will continue until at least the end of January, until we see that the demand for coal is met,” said a spokesman for Poland’s largest carrier.

During the meeting, it was also noted that the transportation capabilities of Ukrzaliznytsia are somewhat limited, in particular, in the western direction, due to the limitation of electricity consumption after the shelling of the energy infrastructure by the Russian Federation.
