Kyrgyzstan is searching for the developer of the feasibility study of the railway line Balykchy – Kara-Keche

The state enterprise “National Company Kyrgyz Temir Zholy” announced a tender for the purchase of services to update the feasibility study for the construction of the Balykchy – Kochkor – Kara-Keche railway. The length of the route is 186 km. This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the press service of KTZ.

Kyrgyz Temir Zholy

The project for the construction of the Balykchy – Kochkor – Kara-Keche railway is included in the National Development Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2018-2040.

This project is of great social and economic importance, first of all, due to the creation of the cheaper route for transporting coal during the development of the Kara-Keche brown coal deposit to provide the population and the thermal power station of Bishkek with coal in the autumn-winter period, as well as other consumer goods.

Currently, coal from the Kara-Keche field is transported by road to Balykchy with further transportation by rail to Bishkek and other settlements in the north of the country.

Transportation of coal by road leads to a significant increase in coal prices and premature destruction of the road surface, which in the long term is more expensive than transportation by rail.

The feasibility study of the project developed in 1998 requires a complete renovation taking into account current prices and calculations of economic efficiency.

In addition, in accordance with the legislation of Kyrgyzstan, the working draft and other technical documents lose their relevance within 3-5 years.
