Kovalska is going to buy 50-100 wagons annually
16.02.2022
The company will start replenishing the wagon fleet next year.
Starting from 2023, the industrial group Kovalska plans to purchase from 50 to 100 railcars annually, informs Railway Supply magazine.
This was stated in an interview with GMK Center by its General Director Sergey Pilipenko.
“We are planning to expand the fleet, but in 2022 we will not purchase wagons. But, starting from 2023, we will order 50-100 railcars annually,” the top manager specified.
Lack of UZ locomotives led to a stop of 500 wagons of the company “Kovalskaya”
The company has already ordered design documentation for the development of the original car from the Kryukovsky Railcar Building Plant and Belarusian manufacturers.
“In order to optimize the cost of the wagon and facilitate loading, we are making practically the same hopper cement carrier, but open one. This reduces the metal consumption and simplifies loading,” Pilipenko explained.
This year the project is to be certified. The company plans to order the first batch of original railcars as early as 2023.

The need to expand the rolling stock in the company is associated with the low efficiency of the railway monopoly. In the second half of 2021, the Kovalska Group faced work interruptions due to a shortage of Ukrzaliznytsia locomotives.
The turnaround time for wagons increased by 2-3 times. “In order to receive the same amount of materials every day, we need to build a rolling stock. In order to compensate for the inefficiency and speed of movement of wagons by rail and fully provide for ourselves,” Pilipenko noted.
Now the Kovalskaya group has a fleet of 480 Belarusian-made railcars.
