Knorr-Bremse Expands Global Rail Contracts Across China and Beyond

Knorr-Bremse has secured new rail contracts in China, supplying braking systems for over 1,000 metro cars and reinforcing its leadership in the global rail industry. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The company signed major deals with CRRC to deliver full braking systems for metro projects in Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Wuhan, Shenzhen, and Ningbo.

These systems include electropneumatic brake controls, bogie components, and actuators. Altogether, Knorr-Bremse will equip approximately 150 metro trains over several years.
The total contract value is estimated in the mid-double-digit million-euro range, roughly $54–65 million based on current exchange rates.
Knorr-Bremse Strengthens Rail Partnerships in China
For more than 30 years, Knorr-Bremse has collaborated closely with China’s rail sector. And now, despite global uncertainty, demand for modern metro fleets continues to rise in China.
Dr. Nicolas Lange, board member for Knorr-Bremse’s Rail division, emphasized the strategic nature of these wins, citing the company’s reliability and the rapid growth of China’s rail market.
Knorr-Bremse Increases Export Reach to Global Rail Markets
In addition to Chinese metro contracts, Knorr-Bremse will provide braking systems for over 100 CRRC locomotives headed for Kazakhstan. Production is managed at its Suzhou facility and through a Beijing joint venture.
The company also secured deals for light rail vehicle systems for Astana, Kazakhstan, and Belo Horizonte, Brazil. These projects expand Knorr-Bremse’s footprint in emerging urban transport markets.
Driven by its BOOST strategy, the company is enhancing its international production network. Export hubs in Suzhou and Palwal (India) are helping reduce lead times and boost supply chain efficiency.
By deepening domestic partnerships and strengthening global logistics, Knorr-Bremse continues to shape the future of rail technology and mobility across key international corridors.
