The Israel Railways Company, “Rakevet Israel,” plans to cut down around 27,000 trees as part of a large-scale project to expand the coastal railway, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Israel Railways Company to Plant 35,000 Trees

The primary work will be carried out in the areas of Netanya, Binyamina, and Hadera. In these zones, the felling will affect about 10,000 avocado and citrus trees growing on expropriated agricultural lands.

This decision has drawn significant public attention, as the removal of such a large number of trees represents one of the largest actions of its kind in the country’s history.

However, “Rakevet Israel” has taken steps to mitigate the environmental impact of its project.

The company will allocate 65 million shekels to municipalities and public organizations to implement tree planting projects in residential areas and recreational zones.

This compensation plan includes the planting of 28,000 trees to create shade along urban roads and in recreational areas.

Additionally, 7,000 trees will be planted along the railway after its expansion, for which another 11 million shekels have been allocated. Thus, the total number of trees planned to be planted is 35,000, exceeding the number of trees being cut down.

The reaction to this news among local residents and environmental organizations has been mixed.

On the one hand, the felling of trees, especially fruit trees, which are an important part of the local ecosystem and agriculture, causes concern.

On the other hand, the compensation measures and plans for massive new tree planting offer hope for the restoration and improvement of green spaces in urban and recreational areas.

The railway expansion project aims to improve the country’s transportation infrastructure, which is also a crucial aspect for the economy and the convenience of residents.

The expansion of the coastal railway is expected to increase capacity and improve transport links between key economic centers.

Nevertheless, this decision underscores the need to find a balance between infrastructure development and environmental conservation.

In the context of modern sustainable development, such projects must consider not only economic benefits but also environmental impacts.

In this case, it is important for “Rakevet Israel” and other stakeholders to ensure that the planting of new trees truly compensates for the damage to nature and contributes to the improvement of urban ecology.

This project can also serve as an example for other companies and government bodies on how to combine infrastructure development with care for nature and the environment.

Responsible attitudes toward the environment and active participation in its restoration should become the norm for all those involved in large-scale construction and industrial projects.

In conclusion, the actions of “Rakevet Israel” in felling and subsequently planting trees demonstrate the complexity and multifaceted nature of addressing such issues in today’s world.

It is essential that these steps lead to improved living conditions and the preservation of natural heritage for future generations.
