Inland Rail CEO Role Temporarily Filled by Zambelli

The board appointed Mike Zambelli as Interim Inland Rail CEO, ensuring project continuity while a formal recruitment process for a permanent replacement begins in the coming weeks.

Zambelli brings over 15 months of experience as Chief Operating Officer at Inland Rail. Before that, he led ARTC’s Major Construction Projects division for three years, gaining operational expertise crucial to this transition.

A company spokesperson said the entire Inland Rail team remains committed to project delivery and to building on the strong momentum achieved over the past 18 months. No reason was provided for Miller’s departure.

Inland Rail CEO Departure Won’t Derail Progress

Despite the leadership shift, Inland Rail’s 1,700-kilometer freight corridor connecting Melbourne and Brisbane continues to move forward through key construction phases and stakeholder engagement.

The project has already completed several sections and is on track to meet strategic goals, with strong federal support and community partnerships reinforcing its momentum. Zambelli’s leadership will help maintain that trajectory.

Miller’s brief tenure helped solidify Inland Rail’s corporate structure. But now, sustained execution depends on consistent leadership as the organization approaches critical delivery milestones in the national freight network.

So while leadership changes present challenges, Inland Rail’s governance structure and dedicated team remain focused on execution, accountability, and long-term success.
