Heartland Flyer Secures Funding to Continue Through 2026
12.07.2025
Heartland Flyer will continue running through 2026 after receiving $3.5 million in emergency regional funding to avoid shutdown due to budget gaps in Texas and Oklahoma. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Heartland Flyer Receives Emergency Funding Boost
The North Central Texas Council of Governments voted to allocate $3.5 million from toll revenues. This decision saved the Heartland Flyer from service suspension that was expected by October.

Amtrak warned in June that without Texas funding, operations would halt. Oklahoma fulfilled its share, but Texas excluded it from the state budget. Historically, both states split operational costs evenly.
The train connects Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, stopping in Pauls Valley, Ardmore, and Gainesville. It plays a crucial role in affordable and sustainable regional mobility.

Heartland Flyer Service Continues Despite Budget Gaps
Local officials applauded the funding decision, noting the train’s role in economic development and access to intercity transit across state lines. Community leaders pushed for intervention.
Amtrak expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the need for long-term planning. While this funding secures service for now, sustainable investment remains a challenge.
For now, the Heartland Flyer will stay on the tracks, maintaining essential connections for travelers who depend on reliable rail service between Texas and Oklahoma.
