Major benefits of the Gippsland Line upgrade

The project delivers trains every 40 minutes, seven days a week, connecting Melbourne and Traralgon with greater efficiency. And because of new rail control systems, services now run more reliably.

Crews completed 80,000 hours of intensive work to install modern signaling and finalize driver training. So, from September 14, passengers will notice more frequent weekday and weekend trips designed to match regional demand.

Infrastructure changes from the Gippsland Line upgrade

Upgrades at Morwell and Traralgon include second platforms, enclosed waiting rooms, and better accessibility. These improvements enhance the passenger experience and support the increased frequency of services across the line.

Earlier upgrades at Bunyip and Longwarry prepared the route for modern VLocity trains. And, with the Avon River bridge at Stratford now complete, the line offers safer, smoother journeys to eastern towns.

The Gippsland Line upgrade, jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian governments, supports faster, safer, and more reliable travel. And because the region is expanding, these enhancements strengthen economic growth and access to jobs and education.

Experts emphasize that modernized infrastructure and digital systems make future expansion easier. So, this investment not only improves current operations but also lays the foundation for greater capacity in coming years.
