G7 to Support Restoration of Transport Infrastructure in Ukraine
19.06.2023
During a meeting of G7 transport ministers, a decision was made to support the restoration of transport infrastructure in Ukraine. This information was reported by the railway journal Railway Supply, citing the Ministry of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
Following the meeting held in Japan from June 16th to 18th, the transport ministers of G7 countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan) issued a joint declaration condemning the destruction of global supply chains by Russia, particularly concerning the navigation of civilian vessels in the Black Sea and damage to Ukrainian transport infrastructure.
As part of the cooperation with the Donor Coordination Platform, G7 will support the restoration of transport infrastructure in Ukraine and contribute to the development of alternative logistic routes for Ukrainian exports.
“The full-scale invasion by Russia has posed logistic challenges not only for Ukraine but for the entire world. Disrupted supply chains, navigation obstacles in the Black Sea, and artificial blockades on Ukrainian agricultural exports exacerbate humanitarian issues globally and contribute to rising food prices. Our global task is to counter Russian aggression and support the development of world logistics. We have a common understanding with the G7 countries that the support for the restoration and development of Ukraine’s transport infrastructure is fundamental. Without functional transportation routes in Ukraine, the global logistics architecture will be at risk,” noted Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kubrakov.

He also expressed gratitude to his colleagues from the G7 countries for their support of Ukraine from the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“I am confident that through joint efforts, we can build an efficient logistics model where there is no place for Russia, and Ukraine will occupy a central position,” emphasized the official.
Furthermore, G7 transport ministers agreed to intensify international efforts in developing the EU program “Solidarity Ways,” which involves financial support for the development of alternative logistic routes for the export of Ukrainian food products.
This includes the development of the Danube Port Cluster, border infrastructure on the EU and Moldova borders, and more.
During the event, the importance of stable operation of the “grain corridor” and the development of resilient transport connections between Europe and Asia, bypassing the aggressor country, was highlighted.
Special attention will be given to the development of the Middle Corridor and the Central Trans-Caspian Network.
It was noted that G7 countries are considering the possibility of establishing green corridors for the export of Ukrainian grain.
Overall, the decision made by G7 transport ministers reflects their support for Ukraine and their aim to improve the country’s transport infrastructure following the destruction caused by Russian aggression.
This is an important step in ensuring stability and developing logistic connections for Ukraine and the global community.
