Once completed, the total number of battery-powered trains will reach 24 units. They are assembled at Stadler’s plant in Siedlce, Poland, strengthening the company’s manufacturing presence in Europe.

The trains can run up to 100 kilometers solely on battery power. Their batteries recharge while operating on electrified sections and through regenerative braking, improving operational efficiency.

FLIRT Akku as a Step Toward Sustainable Transport

In December 2021, a FLIRT Akku set in Germany traveled 224 kilometers without recharging, setting a Guinness World Record. Stadler holds about 50% of the European battery train market.

The new units will feature spaces for passengers with reduced mobility as well as bicycle areas. Air-conditioning systems, Wi-Fi, and information displays will ensure high travel comfort.

Service introduction is scheduled for the first half of 2029. These new trains will replace IC2 diesel units that have been in service since 1997, significantly reducing Denmark’s rail carbon footprint.
