Almost half of the freight cars that were added to their rolling stock fleets of the CIS countries, the Baltic states, as well as Georgia and Ukraine in October 2021, were fitting platforms intended for the transportation of containers.

Fitting platforms

The total fleet of freight cars in the post-Soviet space increased by 4.2 thousand units in October, informs Railway Supply magazine with reference to Railinsider.

Over two thousand of this number are fitting platforms. Gondola cars are in second place in terms of growth rates (+1.6 thousand). Grain carriers are in third place (+0.6 thousand).

JSC “KTZ Express” will increase the fleet of well cars by 2022 by 29%

This contrasts somewhat with the internal Ukrainian tendencies, where open wagons and grain carriers are the leaders among new wagons, and fitting platforms are the third in the ranking. Among the wagons, the number of which dropped off everywhere in October, were tanks.
