The second stage was won by companies from Finland, Germany and Spain. The best offer of € 3.7 million was submitted by the Spanish companies Ardanuy Ingeneria SA and Ayesa Ingenieria y Arquitectura. Сontract with them was signed in the second half of October. “Ardanuy Ingeneria SA is a well-known player in our region, who contributed to the preparation of the Rail Baltica project and was a partner of the Lithuanian State Railways,” said Andrus Alas, Head of Electricity Networks Department at Eesti Raudtee. According to him, the above experience creates a good basis for cooperation in our region.

The agreement provides a technical solution for the electrification of the entire railway. After that, a preliminary design of the Aegviidu-Tapa-Tartu section would be prepared. It should be completed in early 2022. The first major target of the electrification project is the Aegviidu-Tapa-Tartu overhead network by the end of 2024, in line with Elron’s recently concluded contract for the purchase of new electric trains. The entire electrification project is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2028.
