As demand for New Silk Road transport from China to Europe grows, DB Cargo is focusing on providing direct rail links between China and 18 European countries. And a new subsidiary, DB Cargo Transasia, will create a single source of supply, serving a 10,000 km rail network between China and Europe.
In 2020, China became Germany’s most important trading partner for the fifth time in a row. Last year, more than 12 thousand trains ran along the Eurasian corridor. DB believes that the pace of growth in trade is indicative of the need for an additional 3,000 trains per year.
DB wants to increase its traffic between China and Europe from 200,000 to 500,000 containers in 2025. Subsidiary DB Cargo Eurasia has launched several new scheduled routes this year.
The latter started in September and united Shanghai and Hamburg. It should be noted that only one of 18 routes passes through the territory of Ukraine.
