By consolidating projects, the new model significantly shortens implementation timelines from eight years to just a few years. This acceleration supports Germany’s railway modernization efforts and infrastructure development.

Siemens Mobility CEO Michael Peter emphasized the strategic importance of securing this major contract. He highlighted Siemens’ role as a global leader in digital railway technology.

Partnering with Leonhard Weiss, Siemens Mobility will deliver advanced digital control and safety technology. These improvements will enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability across the entire rail network.

Deutsche Bahn’s Partnership with Industry Leaders

Additional railway industry companies hold shares in this large-scale contract. Among them, Alstom signed a separate agreement to digitalize railway operations across Germany.

Alstom’s contract, valued at over $600M, includes the modernization of 1,890 interlocking units. The company will implement digital interlocking solutions in compliance with ETCS standards.

Project execution will begin in early 2025, with implementation spanning until 2032. Initial deployments are scheduled between 2025 and 2028, marking key milestones in digital transformation.

This agreement enables Deutsche Bahn to integrate advanced digital technologies into existing rail infrastructure. The transition aligns with broader European railway modernization efforts.

By standardizing control and safety systems, the initiative improves operational efficiency and reduces maintenance costs. Future expansions will further enhance railway capacity and reliability.
