Cultural Collaboration Drives Design Process
First Nations design professionals Djinjama, with lead architect Hassell, have worked closely with local Knowledge Holders. Their collaborative efforts ensured the stations reflect cultural stories, incorporating colors, textures, and materials inspired by the land. These features will be present throughout the stations, from walkways to communal areas.
The design process also incorporated feedback from the community. During an open consultation period, stakeholders shared valuable insights that shaped the final plans. This collaboration reflects the importance of community engagement in infrastructure development.
By honoring the region’s natural and cultural heritage, these Airport metro stations will serve not only as transportation hubs but as landmarks that connect people to their environment. The project highlights how thoughtful design can integrate functionality with cultural significance.
