DB InfraGo invested €17 billion in 2024 to modernize rail infrastructure and improve transport efficiency. The company implemented upgrades to stations, signaling systems, and major railway corridors. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

One significant project involved renovating the Riedbahn between Frankfurt/Main and Mannheim to boost performance. This initiative launched 40 additional corridor upgrades planned across Germany in the coming years.

DB InfraGo completed the four-track expansion of the Forchheim-Eggolsheim section on the Nuremberg-Bamberg route. This progress supports the completion of the Munich-Berlin corridor and enhances network reliability.
Additionally, upgrades on the Gäubahn line between Stuttgart and Singen improved capacity and regional connectivity. DB InfraGo added 5,500 employees in 2024, strengthening operational teams for maintenance and signaling services.
DB InfraGo Results in Numbers and Statistics
DB InfraGo focused on replacing railway switches, installing 1,851 units—30% more than in 2023. These efforts aimed to enhance network performance and minimize disruptions caused by outdated infrastructure.
Bridge upgrades covered 40,000 square meters, reflecting a 20% increase compared to the previous year. Track construction totaled 1,940 kilometers, closely matching the 1,989 kilometers completed in 2023.
The company renewed 190 kilometers of overhead lines, including 140 kilometers on the Riedbahn section. In 2023, DB InfraGo replaced 124 kilometers, demonstrating consistent modernization across its network.
Signaling technology upgrades included 3,741 new units—72% more than in 2023—boosting reliability. These enhancements prepared infrastructure for increased traffic volumes and future expansion demands.
Nearly 870 railway stations were modernized, featuring platform upgrades, elevators, and weather shelters. In 2023, 650 stations received improvements, with each project exceeding €50,000 in investments.
Future Infrastructure Development Plans
DB InfraGo CEO Philipp Nagl highlighted progress in slowing infrastructure aging through repairs and modernization. He emphasized that 2024 investments effectively stabilized network conditions despite growing traffic demands.
Nagl expressed confidence in maintaining the renovation pace next year with continued government support. He stressed the importance of sustainable investment to advance infrastructure upgrades and meet future challenges.
