Community Consultation Begins for Sunshine Superhub Plans
03.07.2025
The Victorian Government has opened planning consultation for the Sunshine Superhub, aiming to reshape Melbourne’s transport network through community-driven design and infrastructure improvements. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Planned works between West Footscray and Albion cover more than six kilometers and include major upgrades around Sunshine Station. The project supports future airport rail and electrification to Melton.

Sunshine Superhub to Transform Melbourne Rail Connections
The Sunshine Superhub will feature two new regional platforms, an extended concourse, and three modern rail bridges. These elements are expected to boost capacity and streamline commuter movement across the area.
New tracks, realigned passenger and freight lines, and advanced signalling will also be introduced. This infrastructure will support the long-term development of Melbourne’s western corridor.
Public Input Critical to Sunshine Superhub Planning
Authorities are now seeking feedback on several issues. These include traffic and access, noise, vegetation removal, heritage concerns, and environmental safeguards.
Community members can submit opinions through Engage Victoria until Sunday, 27 July. Feedback will inform current plans and help refine concept designs due later this year.
Separate consultation for the redevelopment of Albion Station will begin in 2026. That planning phase will focus on integrating new transport links and improving regional connectivity.
The Sunshine Superhub stands as a central element in transforming public transport across Victoria. By involving the community early, the government hopes to reduce disruption and build smarter infrastructure for decades ahead.
