China utilizes smart robots in the construction of transportation hubs

In December 2023, a new station complex, replacing the old Tansi station, was opened in Guangzhou called Baiyun Station, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This modern complex facilitates the daily movement of 104 trains along the Beijing-Guangzhou, Guangzhou-Maoming-Shantou, and Guangzhou-Maoming routes.

The volume of railway transportation along the Middle Corridor increased by 86%

A key aspect of the station’s construction involved the deployment of smart robots.

The complexity of the project demanded innovative approaches, with robotic devices undertaking a significant portion of construction and assembly work.

For instance, welding robots were employed to connect 104 curved steel elements forming the intricate profile of the roof.

This not only ensured high-quality welding joints but also enhanced efficiency, reducing time and resources.

Smart robots were also successfully used in laying the concrete pavement, ensuring high accuracy and increasing overall work efficiency by 40%.

Interestingly, each robot replaced two conventional workers, a crucial factor in optimizing labor costs.

A total of 18 types of smart robots were involved in the complex’s construction, their capabilities thoroughly tested in practice.

This experience underscores the potential for integrating technology and automation in the construction industry, setting a precedent for future projects in other countries.

China continues to showcase innovation across various sectors, making its transportation hubs more efficient and modern.
