This capital will fund improvements in rail yards located in Lansing, Battle Creek, and Flint. CN aims to boost reliability, enhance safety, and support long-term freight growth across its U.S.–Canada network.

Tracy Robinson, CEO of the railway, stated that the company’s focus remains on long-term development. She noted that investing in Michigan’s infrastructure ensures stronger service and supports resilient economic activity.

In 2024, CN spent $79 million on local infrastructure and maintenance projects across Michigan. The upgrades included $3 million for the Flat Rock Transload facility, $5 million for Lansing Autoport, and $4 million for the Lake Orion automotive hub.

Canadian National Railway Supports Michigan’s Freight Growth

Representative Steve Frisbie welcomed the announcement, saying a reliable rail network is vital for Michigan’s economic health. He highlighted CN’s importance in Calhoun County and Battle Creek, where freight traffic remains critical.

By modernizing its local assets, Canadian National Railway helps maintain safe, efficient logistics and keeps Michigan competitive in regional and national markets.

Canadian National Railway Expands Economic Impact in the State

CN employs around 1,033 people in Michigan and operates 812 miles of track. In 2024, it invested $144,000 in community programs and spent $136 million locally. The railway also contributed $8.1 million in taxes to the state budget.

These efforts highlight CN’s growing economic presence and its commitment to sustainable development throughout Michigan and North America.
