Byford Rail Extension Opening Confirmed with Exact Date
29.07.2025
The Byford Rail Extension and Armadale Line will reopen for passenger service on Monday, October 13, marking a major milestone with a confirmed date for full public access and operational rollout. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Authorities announced the reopening date as the project entered its final testing and commissioning stage. Driver training is in progress to ensure readiness and safety for the upcoming relaunch.

The Byford Rail Extension includes a brand-new station with 400 parking bays and a 46-minute commute to Perth. In Armadale, a new elevated station provides 200 additional parking spaces for local residents.

As part of this major upgrade, crews removed seven level crossings and built two new road-over-rail bridges at Thomas Road and Eleventh Road. These improvements enhance safety and reduce delays for motorists and pedestrians.
In addition, the project created eight hectares of public open space along the elevated line and developed eight kilometers of shared-use paths for walkers and cyclists. This encourages more sustainable transport habits across the region.
While the Armadale Line was closed, the Public Transport Authority implemented the Rail Revitalisation Program. This included replacing 15 kilometers of track and upgrading pedestrian and vehicle crossings for improved network reliability.
Infrastructure improvements also extended to communications, drainage, and overhead power systems. These critical enhancements modernize the line and increase resilience against service disruptions.
Confirmed Date Brings New Fare Benefits
Commuters will continue to benefit from the two-zone fare cap. Starting January 1, 2026, a one-zone fare cap will ensure passengers pay no more than $2.80 when using an autoload SmartRider.
The date for resuming Australind Train services is set for early 2026. The exact announcement is expected soon, pending successful diagnostic tests at the Bellevue railcar facility.
Government Confirms Opening Date as METRONET Expands
WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti thanked residents for their patience. She highlighted that setting a fixed date reflects the government’s commitment to long-term public transport investment and regional development.
The METRONET initiative continues transforming Perth’s transit network. With the Armadale Line reopening, more communities will enjoy reliable, faster, and greener travel options supported by strategic planning and sustained infrastructure delivery.
