Armadale Line Free Travel Extended Amid Major Rail Works
08.06.2025
Free travel on the Armadale Line will continue for regular passengers still impacted by the ongoing closure, following the government’s announcement of a $1.4 million budget extension. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Commuters using stations between Kenwick and Armadale will retain free access until their usual stops reopen, ensuring ongoing support during the METRONET upgrade.

New Developments Along the Armadale Line
Tomorrow, the inner section of the Armadale Line between Perth and Beckenham reopens alongside the new Thornlie-Cockburn Link. Five new stations will start operating, while landscaping and station surroundings will be finalized in the coming months.
The complete line, including updated stations in Armadale and Byford, is set to reopen soon. The government plans to announce an official date in the near future, aligning with continued METRONET milestones.
Additional Investment Secures Key Bus Services
An extra $21.4 million will be invested over four years to keep several high-demand replacement bus routes running permanently across southeast Perth communities.
The retained routes include:
- Route 529: Armadale Station to Cockburn Central Station.
- Route 51: Cannington Station to Perth Busport via Orrong Road.
- Route 36: Cannington Station to Airport Central Station.
These routes received strong local feedback and have seen consistently high usage during the shutdown period.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti emphasized the project’s significance. She highlighted upgrades such as level crossing removals, station transformations, and new parkland along the corridor.
Saffioti also confirmed strong progress on the Byford Rail Extension and thanked passengers for their patience as the state continues delivering long-term public transport improvements.
