A’REX, the shuttle operator to Incheon Airport, has unveiled a project for a new generation of 150 km/h express trains to be used on the 61 km route between the airport and Seoul Station. It is reported by the Railway Supply magazine with reference to the Railway Gazette.

Under a 181 billion won contract signed in January, Hyundai Rotem is supplying nine 1,435 mm gauge six-car trains.

The operator will use the new rolling stock to supplement its existing fleet, which will help it address customer complaints and safety concerns related to increasing train and station congestion.

Additional A’REX train sets will be put into service from 2025. When they are all up and running, the peak interval will be reduced to 4 minutes from the current 6 minutes, and the operator expects a 30% reduction in congestion.
