Passengers will have access to 5G-enabled Wi-Fi, individual power outlets, and personal reading lights. Wilmington’s Joseph R. Biden Jr. Railroad Station remains one of the busiest on the Northeast Corridor, making it a central hub for the new service.

Amtrak invests in modernization and jobs

The launch begins with five NextGen Acela trains, with 28 planned by 2027. Expanded weekday and weekend schedules will follow. Built at Alstom’s Hornell, New York facility by Machinists Union members, the trains use components from 180 suppliers in 29 states.

This production network supports approximately 15,000 U.S. jobs. Beyond the NextGen Acela, Amtrak is rolling out new Amtrak Airo trains, efficient long-distance locomotives, and upgraded interiors for coaches, dining cars, and sleepers.

Travelers can book through the Amtrak website, mobile app, or station kiosks. Closer to launch, Amtrak will post additional details on identifying and booking NextGen Acela services. Both the current Acela and the new model will operate during the transition.
