Amtrak adds three new daily round trips between Los Angeles and San Diego, funded by a $27M grant. This service expansion restores pre-pandemic train frequencies and enhances travel convenience.

Amtrak to Offer 13 Daily Round Trips

Starting in March, two additional daily round trips will be available, with a third introduced in November. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner’s service will increase from 10 to 13 daily round trips. These changes aim to provide near-hourly availability during peak travel times.

Chris Orlando, Deputy Managing Director of LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, explained the initiative. “The objective is to return our train service frequencies to pre-pandemic levels,” he stated. This improvement is possible thanks to a $27M grant from the Federal Railroad Administration.

Amtrak Enhances Travel Options for Passengers

Sebastian Magnarelli, at the Old Town Transit Center, welcomed the service upgrade. “Weekend train options are limited, but this expansion improves our travel plans,” he noted. Increased service will significantly benefit both commuters and leisure travelers.

By expanding its schedule, Amtrak reaffirms its commitment to meeting regional transportation needs. These updates mark a significant milestone in rail service between Southern California’s key cities.
