Amtrak Service Expansion Supports Summer Travel Demand

The new roundtrip marks the 12th daily service between the two cities and meets the growing summer travel demand across Southern California. LOSSAN Chair and Fullerton Mayor Fred Jung highlighted this milestone as key in restoring regional rail connectivity.

These additional departures also close important schedule gaps and support better options for business and leisure travelers. And because summer events draw more riders, Amtrak aims to ease the strain on highways by offering timely alternatives.

Amtrak Enhances Regional Connectivity and Convenience

According to LOSSAN Managing Director Jason Jewell, the updated schedule boosts both frequency and reliability. He emphasized that adding routes reinforces Amtrak’s role in building a sustainable transport system.

The full corridor is now operational, allowing 12 roundtrips between San Diego and Los Angeles, five to Goleta, and three to San Luis Obispo. Thruway Buses connect passengers to destinations like Oakland, Solvang, and Palm Springs.

Spanning 351 miles, the Pacific Surfliner covers six counties and 29 stations, making it one of the most important routes in the U.S. The new roundtrip brings service closer to pre-pandemic levels when 13 daily roundtrips were available.

Each Amtrak train features reclining seats, power outlets, free Wi-Fi, bike and luggage space, and a Market Café serving food, local craft beer, and California wines.

Travelers can buy tickets through PacificSurfliner.com, Amtrak.com, the mobile app, or by calling 800-USA-RAIL.
