Alstom and partners will receive $16 million to develop hybrid trains for sustainable rail. This funding aims to bring advanced technology to the rail sector and increase safety. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer announced the allocation of $15,982,500 in federal funding. This investment supports Steuben County IDA in collaboration with Alstom and Binghamton University. Together, they will focus on producing and testing battery-powered hybrid trains.
The funding originates from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. With this investment, Southern Tier will gain two new facilities dedicated to advancing next-generation trains.
Schumer highlighted that this funding will elevate Steuben County’s role in rail innovation. He added that hybrid locomotives will enhance rail sustainability and improve overall track safety.
This new funding solidifies Steuben County’s leadership in battery technology for transportation. The project is set to create jobs and stimulate the local economy, supporting sustainable development.
