Akiem has been active in Italy since 2009, expanding its leasing solutions for key market players. This agreement aligns with the company’s strategic growth in a high-potential European logistics hub.

“Italy plays a vital role in our European rail expansion strategy,” says Arnaud Deloumeau. He highlights the importance of customized traction solutions and the company’s commitment to sustainable transport.

Akiem offers a comprehensive range of locomotive leasing services, including shunting, diesel, and advanced electric models. The portfolio features TRAXX DC2, DC3 with Last Mile capabilities, and multi-system locomotives like TRAXX MS2.

Deloumeau confirms the success of an 18-month optimization process for Siemens Eurosprinter locomotives. These improvements enhance performance, ensuring more reliable operations for freight transport clients.

Akiem and RTC Drive Sustainable Freight Transport

RTC, headquartered in Bolzano since 2000, operates rail corridors connecting Italy with Germany and Slovenia. Under Martin Ausserdorfer’s leadership, the company has strengthened its international freight expertise.

Through STR2, RTC belongs to the Autostrada del Brennero Group, a major player in Italy’s freight rail sector. Key subsidiaries like Lokomotion and InRail further reinforce RTC’s market position.

The Siemens Eurosprinter 189 locomotives leased by Akiem will enhance RTC’s existing fleet. Built between 2002 and 2005, these locomotives meet European freight transport standards and efficiency demands.

Currently, these locomotives operate across major corridors, including Rhine-Alps, Rhine-Danube, and Central Europe. Their integration into RTC’s network supports seamless cross-border logistics.

Martin Ausserdorfer, CEO of RTC, highlights the value of collaborating with Akiem. He emphasizes their expertise in locomotive leasing and the benefits of enhanced operational performance.

He confirms that this agreement strengthens RTC’s commitment to building an integrated European railway network. The SCAN-MED corridor, particularly the Brenner tunnel, remains a focal point of future development.

This partnership ensures RTC can meet growing freight demands while maintaining efficient and sustainable operations. Akiem’s leasing solutions help RTC align with European rail infrastructure requirements.

By advancing their collaboration, both companies support the continued expansion of rail freight transport. Their strategic alignment enhances connectivity and efficiency across Europe’s logistics landscape.

This contract further solidifies Akiem’s leadership in the Italian rail leasing sector. By partnering with major operators, the company continues shaping the future of European rail transport.
