From January 18, 2023, 15 years after the suspension of train traffic, you can travel from Rakhiv in Ukraine to Valea Visheului station in Romania. The line was restored in just six months. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Rynek Kolejowy.

The reconstruction of the line on the Ukrainian side, about 18 kilometers long, was completed in mid-November, but a short, 700-meter section on the Romanian side still had to be restored. On January 17, the last test run took place, during which the wide-gauge Ukrainian diesel train reached the Romanian station. The route will operate under the name “Marmaros Express”.

Reconstruction of tracks to the port of Gdansk completed

The train will run twice a day along the beautiful mountain route between Rakhiv and Valea Visheului. The situation with transfers at the Romanian railway station is interesting. There are 5 pairs of regional trains to Cluj, Viseu de Jos and Becklin pe Somes. All these trains depart from the Szigetu Marmatiei station and arrive in Valea Visheului. The most interesting train is definitely the overnight regional train to Cluj, which leaves just after midnight. From there you can go further, for example, to Bucharest and Budapest.
