A tender has been announced for the reconstruction of a section of the Prague airport railway
SZ, the manager of the Czech railway infrastructure, has announced a tender for the modernization of the Prague-Bubny-Prague-Vystaviste line, including a station on the Prague-Kladno railway line, with a dedicated rail link to the Vaclav Havel airport in Prague.
This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply. The offer price for the contract is CZK 3.8 billion (EUR 149.5 million).
The implementation of this project will mark the beginning of a major transformation of Prague Holešovice district, which will be transformed into a completely new district. The modernization will be completed in 2025.
The most significant element of the modernized railway line will be the new Praha-Bubny railway station, which will be built behind the Negrelli viaduct and connected by an underground lobby to the C Vltavská metro station.
The station, designed by Jakub Cigler Architekti, will have three platforms and four tracks. In October, SZ announced a tender for CZK 4 billion (EUR 157.4 million) for double-track and electrification works on the 5-kilometer section of the Kladno – Kladno-Ostrovets railway.
Work on this section is expected to begin in 2022 and be completed in 2024.
The project of the 29 km railway line Prague – Kladno envisages doubling the track and electrifying the entire route, including the section of connection with the airport and its metro station.
