A new powerful intermodal terminal is being built on the territory of Romania to serve rail and road transport.

Powerful intermodal terminal

The object should start operating in the city of Aiud in the first half of next year. It is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply.

The new terminal will be connected by rail to the Romanian port of Constanta. Also, the company DP World, which is involved in the project, will provide convenient communication with Transylvania, a region where half of the country’s industrial GDP is formed.

According to representatives of DP World, after the opening of the new intermodal terminal, infrastructure problems will be largely resolved and reliable communication between the shores of the Black and Adriatic Seas will be provided.

In addition, after the modernization, only renewable energy sources will be used to provide electricity.

Earlier, Cosmin Karstea, CEO of DP World Romania, said that the new terminal will become an important point for ensuring cargo transportation on the New Silk Road. Now they also want to serve the Ukrainian cargo flow here.

As previously reported, Romania plans to repair the Giurgiulesti-Galati railway line. Also on April 28, a vessel with Ukrainian corn left the port of Constanta for the first time.
