A new Railway Code has been approved in Moldova

The Moldovan government has approved a draft Railway Transport Code. It will be submitted to parliament. The decision was made during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday.

According to the document, a legal framework will be established regarding the conditions of railway infrastructure management and organization of railway transport activities.

According to Deputy Prime Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Andriy Spin, the new code will serve as a legal basis for the start of reforms in the industry, reports Railway Supply magazine.

He added that the project aims to achieve the following goals: elimination of monopoly and liberalization of railway transport services; development of market competitiveness of railway transport services; creating a fair investment climate in the industry; establishment of a railway department responsible for compliance with safety subsidies for railway transport; regulation of the mechanism of formation of costs for access to infrastructure, as well as requirements and rules related to transport operations.

Moldovan Railway will sell 100 old diesel locomotives

In April this year, employees of the state-owned Moldovan Railways went on strike, demanding repayment of wage arrears. At the railway junctions in Ocnita, Balti, Bender and Bessarabka, employees went to work but refused to perform their duties in protest.

We will remind that deputies of parliament of Moldova earlier created the commission which members checked activity of Moldovan Railways and came to a conclusion that the enterprise is on the verge of bankruptcy.
