Electric locomotives produced by KVSZ could cost 15% less than produced by Alstom, – Vladimir Prikhodko
18.08.2021
The cost of electric locomotives from the Kryukovsky Railcar Building Plant (KVSZ) could be 15-20% lower than the price of locomotives that Ukrzaliznytsia plans to purchase from Alstom.
This opinion was expressed by the head of the Ukrainian enterprise, Volodymyr Prikhodko, in an interview with Mintrans.
According to him, at first Ukrzaliznytsya planned to hold a tender for the purchase of traction rolling stock. Among the contenders were the following companies: Alstom (France), Siemens (Germany), CRRC (China), Škoda (Czech Republic) and KVSZ (Ukraine), informs Railway Supply magazine.
Subject to winning the auction, the management planned to establish its own production of electric locomotives.
KVSZ has produced less than 500 freight cars since the beginning of 2021
“The release of such products is not a novelty for us. After all, we used to produce electric locomotives for our EKr1 “Tarpan” trains. I drew them, tested them, made them. Now each of them has covered 2.5 million km”, noted Vladimir Prikhodko.
On May 13, 2021, representatives of the governments of the French Republic and Ukraine signed a framework agreement on the implementation of the project to update the fleet of freight electric locomotives of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.
