In Switzerland, Flirt Evo electric trains were officially unveiled by Stadler and three railway operators. The €1.8 billion contract marks a significant step forward in rail innovation. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

A New Era for Flirt Evo Electric Trains
The Flirt Evo electric trains contract was signed in 2022 with SBB, Thurbo, and RegionAlps. The initial order consists of 286 trains: 155 for SBB, 24 for Thurbo, and 107 for RegionAlps. In 2024, SBB expanded its order by exercising an option for 43 additional trains. Delivery and operational rollout will take place between 2026 and 2035.

SBB plans to make Flirt Evo electric trains the backbone of its regional transport system. These trains will also operate on international routes in Germany, France, and Austria, providing seamless connectivity across borders.

Flirt Evo electric trains are available in three- and four-car configurations, accommodating 256 and 370 passengers, respectively. The improved interior design offers additional space for luggage, bicycles, and strollers, ensuring a better passenger experience.
Modern air conditioning systems using propane and facilities for passengers with reduced mobility highlight the train’s focus on accessibility and sustainability. These features ensure enhanced comfort while minimizing environmental impact.
