DualShunter 2000 by CZ Loko at Trako 2023
22.09.2023
CZ Loko is not a frequent visitor to Polish exhibitions. However, the Czech manufacturer is well-known in Poland, having completed several contracts (including for the Warsaw Metro) and PKP Intercity, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
CZ Loko has delivered 10 shunting locomotives Effishunter 300, all of which are operating on the access tracks of PKP Intercity.
Furthermore, it’s possible that there will be more such diesel shunting locomotives since PKP Intercity is seeking 18 locomotives in a new tender.
UZ Plans to Acquire Passenger Wagons
CZ Loko has brought to the railway exhibition Trako 2023 a very interesting and technologically advanced locomotive, as reported by Rynek Kolejowy.
This is the Dualshunter 2000, intended for an Italian customer, namely Mercitalia – a company within the Italian State Railways (Trenitalia) group. CZ Loko has reasons to be proud because this locomotive is quite remarkable.
The locomotive allows for the use of electric traction where available and, when it’s not, it can utilize a powerful internal combustion engine for both shunting and linear movement.
Therefore, on the roof of the single-cabin locomotive with excellent visibility, there is a pantograph from which power will be directly transmitted to the traction motors.
The energy for these motors can be generated by a Caterpillar C32 (V Stage) engine with a power output of 895 kW. This is sufficient for performing ‘medium-duty’ shunting tasks.
One significant advantage of this four-axle locomotive is its ability to regenerate energy during braking.
Reconstruction of Railway Section Begins in Hungary
The specific vehicle showcased at Trako is ready to operate at a 3 kV direct current voltage, which is the same as in Poland (it’s also standard on regular lines in Italy). Additionally, there is an option to order a dual-system locomotive capable of operating at 25 kV alternating current.
The Czechs proudly state that this is the first new Czech locomotive manufactured in the country in 15 years.
Previously, the Czech industry built a high-speed locomotive called Emil Zatopek, which, however, turned out to be a source of almost exclusive problems for Škoda and the Czech railways.
