Drones for Cleaning Trains and Buildings Deployed by Indian Railways
17.06.2025
Indian Railways are testing drones equipped with high-pressure nozzles at Kamakhya Junction station to clean train carriages and buildings, including roofs, depots, and facades, improving safety and operational efficiency. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The drones effectively handle dirt in areas inaccessible to manual labor. This technology helps reduce injury risks, lowers operating expenses, and increases the precision of facility maintenance.

Indian Railways Launch Pilot Project with Cleaning Drones
The pilot project is underway in Assam as part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy for digital transformation. The system is designed to accelerate maintenance while ensuring sanitary standards across stations and depots.
Since 2018, Indian Railways have been using drones to monitor infrastructure conditions. In 2020, the operator introduced an upgraded model called Ninja for facility surveillance and track inspection.
Drones Help Indian Railways Reduce Costs and Risks
Management believes drones will become standard tools for technical servicing, especially at major stations. If the pilot project proves successful, the system will be scaled across the national network.
