Specialists at the Rail Tec Arsenal testing center create conditions with a temperature range from –25 to +40 °C. They also test the train’s resistance to wind loads at speeds of up to 160 km/h.

These tests are necessary to obtain official approval for the new electric train’s operation. In the future, it will be used on suburban routes, ensuring passenger comfort.

Earlier, in September 2024, the electric train was presented at the prestigious international InnoTrans exhibition. Later, in November, the new rolling stock was showcased to the public in Austria.

According to the contract signed between Stadler and ÖBB, the railway operator will receive 109 modern trains. This batch will include both four-car and six-car units designed for passenger transport.

The total contract value between the companies is approximately €1.5 billion, highlighting the project’s significance. The deliveries will significantly upgrade the rolling stock of the ÖBB network.

The operation of new double-decker trains will begin in 2026, enhancing transport infrastructure. The use of these units will increase the capacity of Vienna’s suburban routes.

Advantages of the double-decker train KISS

Cityjet KISS trains are designed with cutting-edge technological solutions, making them both convenient and efficient. They provide a high level of comfort thanks to modern ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Additionally, Stadler engineers have equipped the trains with innovative energy-saving technologies, reducing operational costs. This is crucial for achieving environmentally friendly and efficient railway transportation.

When will the double-decker train KISS start operating?

Thus, the introduction of new trains will be a significant step in the development of Austria’s transport network. By 2026, they will ensure reliable and comfortable passenger transportation across the country.

Thanks to technical innovations and high safety standards, these trains will greatly improve the quality of railway transport. As a result, passengers will benefit from a more convenient and faster travel experience.
