Diesel Shunting Locomotive MDD4: Efficiency and Eco-Friendliness on European Railways
28.10.2024
The MDD4 diesel shunting locomotive demonstrates reliable performance with trains at stations, including large stations in Basel. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
At one of Basel’s major stations, the MDD4 diesel shunting locomotive continues to operate with a 550-meter train. Starting next week, daily “coffee trains” will begin transporting to Nescafe’s factory, owned by Nestle.
Eight years have passed since its delivery, and, thanks to constant care, it still appears as new.
Key Features of the MDD4 Diesel Shunting Locomotive for Modern Use
Express Service’s MDD4 locomotive features a well-designed structure and a powerful engine meeting shunting locomotive standards.
The engine, with 400 kW of power, fully meets European emission standards, which ensures environmental safety. This locomotive is one of the most eco-friendly in Europe, as its use reduces emissions.
Additionally, the model is approved for operation in Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria, and potentially other EU countries.
Why the MDD4 Diesel Shunting Locomotive Is Popular Among European Operators?
This model’s fuel efficiency impresses, consuming only two liters per hour on idle, which is crucial for environmental balance.
Weighing 42 tons, the locomotive includes remote-control capability, simplifying shunting operations and enhancing operational flexibility. The MDD4 is affordably priced and meets the needs of many European operators with its optimal cost-to-quality ratio.
Operating the MDD4 is also economically beneficial, as it ranks among the most affordable of its European counterparts. Its unique technical characteristics make it in demand in the railway transportation market.
Technical specifications of the MDD4 include a track width of 1435 (1520) mm, hydrodynamic transmission, and axle formula B. The engine’s 403 kW power and Stage IV Final emission level meet strict standards.
The locomotive achieves a maximum speed of 60 km/h, with a length of 9340 mm, width of 3000 mm, and height of 4080 mm. The wheelbase measures 4700 mm, and its weight of 41 tons ensures stability and strength. Starting traction reaches 135 kN. The locomotive is equipped with axle-mounted disc brakes, effective within a temperature range of -30 to +50 degrees Celsius.
The simplicity and reliability of the design make it convenient for use, eliminating the need for complex maintenance.
Express Service guarantees the high quality and dependability of its products, providing optimal conditions for users. The company’s locomotives are known for reliability and simplicity, making them stand out in the market.
If your application allows slower shunting works or is emissions sensitive, please consider our battery-powered shunting vehicles.
