Delhi Metro extra trains to begin on May 18
According to India Today, DMRC will operate 24 additional train trips every Monday. It will deploy six extra trains on different Metro corridors. The arrangement will start on May 18. Also, more services may be added on other days. That will depend on passenger demand in the coming weeks.
Separately, The Indian Express reported that DMRC plans to strengthen station arrangements. Footfall is expected to rise. Key stations will get extra security staff, ticket counters, baggage scanners, and frisking facilities. These arrangements are meant to support smoother passenger movement. They should also help avoid long peak-hour queues.
DMRC prepares stations for higher passenger demand
The corporation said the Delhi Metro network already provides seamless connectivity across Delhi-NCR. For example, it links passengers with major transport hubs. These include railway stations, ISBTs, and airport terminals. They also include the Regional Rapid Transit System. Other links include Noida Metro Rail Corporation services and Rapid Metro Gurgaon.
In addition, officials said greater use of the Metro can significantly reduce road congestion. It can also lower fuel consumption and help cut pollution levels in the city. They also described the network as an efficient and affordable public transport option for lakhs of daily commuters.
The additional Monday services are expected to benefit office-goers, students, and regular passengers. Ridership is usually higher at the start of the working week after the weekend.
Separately, DMRC has advised commuters to use smart cards or digital payment methods. This is meant to support faster entry and a smoother travel experience. Passenger numbers are expected to increase after the service expansion.
