CRRC: Launch of New Generation Hybrid Locomotives
23.05.2024
The first batch of new generation hybrid locomotives from CRRC has been put into operation in China, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Ten six-axle FXN3B locomotives have begun shunting operations at two stations in Beijing, demonstrating significant technological advancements in the country’s railway industry.
Deutsche Bahn is conducting acceptance tests for the ICE3 neo in Belgium
Each of these locomotives is equipped with a powerful 12V240H diesel engine with a power output of 2500 kW.
This engine uses high-pressure electronic fuel injection technology, which significantly enhances the machine’s performance and efficiency.
This is an important achievement for railway transportation as it not only improves operational characteristics but also reduces operational costs.
In addition to the diesel engine, the locomotives are equipped with modern lithium-titanate batteries.
These batteries can operate in extreme conditions at temperatures as low as –40°C and can be recharged in just 20 minutes.
The use of battery traction reduces fuel consumption by 25-34% compared to the current locomotive fleet, also leading to a significant reduction in harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
This aligns with global trends towards reducing carbon footprints and combating climate change.
The new locomotives feature a modular design and are standardized with other machines in the Fuxing platform, simplifying maintenance and repairs.
They are also equipped with intelligent control and diagnostic systems, significantly increasing operational reliability and safety.

The implementation of such technologies is a key step towards creating a more sustainable and efficient railway infrastructure.
It is worth noting that since 2022, previous generation hybrid locomotives have been in operation in China, and hydrogen and contact-battery locomotives are also being tested.
These innovations demonstrate the country’s commitment to implementing advanced technologies in the transportation sector and achieving sustainable development.
