CR450 Sets a New Global Speed Benchmark
China is again at the forefront of rail innovation due to its engineers’ ability to merge accurate design with powerful materials. The CR450 achieved 453 km/h while being tested on China’s Shanghai–Chongqueh–Chengdu high-speed corridor, breaking through traditional levels of rail performance.
When two trains overtook one another, their total speed reached 896 km/h, which was a manifestation of China’s burgeoning technological advantage. The engineers crafted the train to operable safely and effectively in such ultra-rapidities with stability intact as well as passenger comfort.
The aerodynamic improvements mattered a lot. The designers increased length of nose cone to 15 meters, covered the bogies, and lowered friciton reduction of 22 percent. Owing to these modifications, overall weight of the train reduced by 50 tons from that of CR400 Fuxing model.
CR450 Strengthens China’s Transport Leadership
The CR450 accelerates from zero to 350 km/h in just 4 minutes and 40 seconds—over 100 seconds faster than older models. Engineers spent five years refining performance, analyzing micro-level gains as small as 0.1 percent.
Testing involves 600,000 kilometers to verify safety, efficiency, and in-service reliability. China Central TV referred to successful testing as the “Final step prior to commercial service” when it was a breakthrough from “made in China” to “made in China.”
The high-speed railroad expansion is part of a broader national plan. China’s comprehensive network is over 6 million kilometers long and connects over 80 percent of regions while serving almost 213 million rail passengers across national holidays.
