CN America250 commemorative locomotives 1776 and 2026 join fleet
04.03.2026
CN America250 commemorative locomotives are now in service after CN launched its America250 celebrations on March 04, 2026, as CN said. As America250 notes, the two specially painted units mark the United States’ 250th anniversary of independence.

In addition, CN said the locomotives are meant to highlight two pillars—independence and innovation. They will travel across CN’s U.S. rail network from the Gulf Coast through the Midwest and into the Great Lakes. At the same time, CN said they will carry freight while bringing the America250 message to communities along the route.
CN’s America250 celebrations and U.S. economic impact
CN used the commemorative locomotive unveiling to underscore its long-running ties to the United States and the part it says it plays in the broader economy. The company said its operations and capital investments support more than 25,000 jobs across the U.S., contribute approximately $4.1 billion to U.S. GDP, and generate $1.7 billion in tax revenues. Separately, it pointed to how the network connects farmers and manufacturers to global markets and helps strengthen domestic supply chains.

“America’s 250th anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the ideals and vision that helped shape the United States of America and the innovation that continues to define it. At CN, we are proud to have played a vital role in the country’s past and are excited to continue connecting U.S. industries, communities and supply chains for generations to come.”
- Tracy Robinson, President and Chief Executive Officer, CN
“Railroads have been central to America’s growth since its earliest days. These locomotives are more than commemorative designs, they are rolling tributes to the resilience, ingenuity and pursuit of liberty that define the American experience. We are proud to pay tribute to this incredible milestone and to continue delivering safely and reliably for our customers and the communities across this great country.”
- Patrick Whitehead, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, CN
Locomotive 1776 “Screaming Eagle” design
One of the America250 locomotives is identified with the number “1776” and carries a striking “Screaming Eagle” design. CN said the wrap prominently features the bald eagle, which it described as a long-standing symbol of American independence, strength and freedom. Meanwhile, the company added that the “Screaming Eagle” has deep historical roots and has long been associated with military service, where it has come to represent courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the nation. In CN’s description, the eagle as the nation emblem represents sovereignty and resolve, and in flight it represents vision, leadership and the enduring pursuit of liberty.

Locomotive 2026 Air Force One-inspired design and service timeline
The second locomotive, identified with the number “2026,” draws inspiration from the iconic design of Air Force One, which CN described as a global symbol of precision, innovation and national security. CN said the design is intended to reflect America’s leadership in engineering and advanced technology and to underscore the link between transportation innovation and economic strength.
CN said the America250 locomotives will begin service immediately and are expected to operate across the company’s U.S. network throughout 2026, offering employees, customers and rail enthusiasts an opportunity to participate in the celebration, as reported by Railway Age.
