China’s First Hydrogen-Powered Train Sets Tourism Milestone
09.11.2025
The newly-unveiled hydrogen train made by CRRC Changchun represents a breakthrough in green transportation because it integrates cutting-edge technology with local culture to serve a rapidly developing tourist industry.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

CRRC Changchun expands innovation through train technology
The Qingchun was rolled out in October by Chinese train manufacturer CRRC Changchun. It represents the country’s first hydrogen-based tourist train. The event shows that China’s clean transportation sector has become a driving force in its economic development.

The hydrogen system can function fully without overhead wires. Indeed, it not only cuts emissions but adds flexibility to routes. The train system can operate with one to six train cars. In other words, its functionality adjusts according to demand.
The Qingchun was engineered to function well in colder climate conditions found in the provinces to the north, where temperatures are well below -20°C. Secondly, by incorporating artistic designs related to local culture, the train was both a mode of transportation and a mobile showcase for Chinese culture.
The train serves to promote Chinese clean energy objectives
In addition to these projects, other major undertakings are to create six clean industry clusters focusing on hydrogen energy-based power technology, electric system technology, and intelligent manufacturing. These are part of efforts to make China a leader in global green rail technology.
Hydrogen propulsion systems are progressively emerging globally to aid in decarbonization because they offer efficient, zero-carbon transportation. Chinese investments in hydrogen train technology enable the country to achieve its “dual carbon” objectives to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
They added that Qingchun had great prospects for developing sustainable tourism destinations and jobs in Northeastern China. Besides relying mostly on reliability and lower operating costs due to energy use, hydrogen trains can cut operating costs.
Analysts suggest continued collaboration between CRRC and research institutions to promote nationwide development in hydrogen infrastructure. Thus, with increasing demand for eco-friendly transportation modes, a new era in mobility might be shaped around hydrogen rail technology innovation in China.
