Authorities recently introduced an action plan to support autonomous driving applications in high-priority areas, including the Yangtze River Delta and the Greater Bay Area. These efforts demonstrate China’s intent to lead in the field of connected vehicle technology.

By enhancing the infrastructure for intelligent connected vehicles, China aims to develop smart highways, advanced ports, and efficient transport hubs. This initiative aligns with their objective to reduce the logistics-to-GDP cost ratio to 13.5 percent by 2027. Officials expect this investment to improve logistics efficiency, particularly in densely populated regions that drive economic growth.

In 2023, China’s logistics performance showed improvement, with a 0.3 percentage point decrease in the logistics-to-GDP ratio compared to the previous year. Data indicates a significant increase in rail-water intermodal transport volume, highlighting progress in the logistics sector. By focusing on these critical areas, China is set to enhance transport performance across its vast infrastructure.

Statistics reveal the positive impact of China’s investments in logistics and intelligent transportation networks. In 2023 alone, the country recorded over 11.7 million TEUs in rail-water intermodal transport. This growth reflects China’s commitment to strengthening its logistics network for sustained economic development.
