Rising Passenger Traffic and Investments in China

In 2024, China’s railway system transported 4.08 billion passengers, representing a 10.8% increase from the previous year. These figures highlight the growing reliance on rail as a primary mode of travel.

By 2025, passenger numbers are expected to rise further, reaching 4.28 billion people. This growth is supported by expanded routes and the introduction of advanced rail technologies.

China plans to invest ¥590 billion ($82 billion) in its rail sector by 2025. For comparison, investments in 2024 totaled ¥850.6 billion ($117 billion), marking an 11.3% growth year-over-year.
