Stadler Citylink drives innovation and local investment
Stadler further enhances its collaboration with the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) with a new contract to deliver 20 Citylink light rail cars at Stadler’s existing manufacturing facility in the Salt Lake City area.
The new order comes on the heels of an earlier 2024 order of 20 cars, reflecting UTA’s growing trust in Stadler’s rail solutions. The project helps implement Utah’s “TRAX Forward” vision that’s been in place for the last decade.
UTA approved the new order to enhance passenger service and accommodate population growth across the Salt Lake City area. The original $129 million contract, backed by a Federal Transit Administration grant, included options for 60 more units. By exercising 20 of these, UTA brings the total to 40 vehicles.
Stadler Citylink enhances Utah’s transit experience
UTA Executive Director Jay Fox said direct collaboration with Stadler’s Utah facility allows engineers to adjust designs during production and optimize performance. These new low-floor trains will simplify boarding, increase comfort, and improve reliability because of real-time coordination between UTA and Stadler teams.

Stadler Citylink trains incorporate renowned European design with Utah-built craftsmanship. These trains offer smooth and noise-free operations as well as full accessibility for disabled passengers. The Citylink model has been one of Stadler’s most trusted light rail trains with more than 800 sales around the world.
Martin Ritter, the CEO of Stadler US Inc., said of the new partnership agreement that it illustrates that Utah cares about eco-friendly infrastructure. Furthermore, Stadler US headquarters alone has provided jobs for more than 600 Americans since 2016. These jobs reside in Stadler US headquarters in Utah.
