Cargo transportation by railway in Latvia has decreased

The volume of freight transported by rail in Latvia for the first 11 months of this year has decreased by 28.2% compared to the same period in 2022, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
From January to November of the current year, Latvia’s railways transported 14.291 million tons of cargo, which is 28.2% less than the corresponding period last year.

International transportation volume was 12.794 million tons, a 30.2% decrease from the previous year, while domestic transportation volume decreased by 4.5% to 1.497 million tons.
Transit for the first 11 months of 2023 amounted to 11.155 million tons, a 31.2% decrease from the same period last year.
Specifically, transit volume through ports this year was 10.351 million tons, 27.2% less than the same period last year, and overland transit through Latvia’s territory was 804 thousand tons, a decrease of 59.7%.
Meanwhile, in 2022, the volume of railway freight transportation in Latvia decreased by 1.7% compared to 2021, totaling 21.588 million tons.
In the first 11 months of the previous year, the volume of railway freight transportation amounted to 19.898 million tons.
